Randal Keith Orton was born on April 1, 1980, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to nurse Elaine and professional wrestler Bob Orton Jr.

He is Bob Orton’s grandson and Barry Orton’s nephew, both professional wrestlers.

Nathan, his younger brother, is a stand-up comedian, and Rebecca, his younger sister, is also a stand-up comedian.

Orton’s parents attempted to persuade him to leave the industry because they knew how difficult it was, and his father told him that life in the ring meant a life on the road and away from his family.

Education

Orton was an amateur wrestler at Hazelwood Central High School.

He enrolled in the US Marine Corps after graduating from high school in 1998.

After going AWOL on two occasions and disregarding a commanding officer’s order, he was given a poor conduct discharge at the base in 1999.

He was tried and convicted in a special court-martial, and spent 38 days in the brig at Camp Pendleton, according to the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Orton began wrestling in 2000 at the Mid-Missouri Wrestling Association-Southern Illinois Conference Wrestling (MMWA-SICW) in St. Louis, Missouri, an offspring of Sam Muchnick’s renowned St. Louis Wrestling Club.

Orton got a contract with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 2001 and was sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), a developmental territory of the WWF, in Louisville, Kentucky, where he completed his training.

On March 16, 2002, at WrestleMania X8’s Fan Axxess, Orton was defeated by Tommy Dreamer in one of his first official WWF appearances.

Orton spent a lot of time in 2003 assisting Triple H in his quest for the World Heavyweight Championship.

On September 21, 2007, Orton married Samantha Speno. Together, they have a daughter. They divorced in June 2013 after splitting up in late 2012.

Orton married Kimberly Kessler, a former member of his fan club, on November 14, 2015. The pair has a daughter (Orton’s second) together. They live in the Missouri town of St. Charles.
