Mark William Calaway, the son of Frank Compton Calaway and Betty Catherine Truby, was born on March 24, 1965, in Houston, Texas.

David, Michael, Paul, and Timothy are his four elder brothers.

He pondered playing professional basketball in Europe for a short time before opting to pursue a career in professional wrestling.

He was a member of both the football and basketball teams at Waltrip High School.

He graduated in 1983 and enrolled at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas, on a basketball scholarship.

He began his college career at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1985, majoring in sports management and playing center for the Rams during the 1985–1986 season.

Calaway dropped out of university in 1986 to pursue a career in athletics.

Calaway began training under Buzz Sawyer in late 1986; he despised Sawyer, who he said lacked devotion and only gave a rudimentary instruction. Following that, Calaway learned “on the job.”

Calaway joined the Continental Wrestling Association in 1988 and wrestled under a variety of personas.

Calaway joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW) as a villain in 1989 and was given the ring moniker “Mean Mark” Callous by Terry Funk.

Calaway was married to Jodi Lynn from 1989 until 1999, and they had a son, Gunner Vincent Calaway, who was born in 1993.

Calaway married Sara Frank, his second wife, in 2000. She made television appearances with the WWE (then known as the WWF) in 2001 as part of a feud between Calaway and Diamond Dallas Page, when she was identified as Calaway’s wife. Before divorcing in 2007, they had two kids together, Chasey and Gracie Calaway.

He married Michelle McCool, a former wrestler, in 2010. In 2012, they had their first child, a girl named Kaia Faith Calaway. Kolt, their younger son, is their only child.

Calaway formed the Bone Street Krew in the 1990s, which included fellow wrestlers Yokozuna, Savio Vega, Charles Wright, The Godwinns, and Rikishi. The initials “BSK” were tattooed on each member, with Undertaker’s being prominently displayed on his stomach.
