Private & early life

Hickenbottom’s first marriage, to Theresa Wood, was short-lived and ended in a peaceful divorce.

On March 31, 1999, at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada, he married Rebecca Curci, a former WCW Nitro Girl known as Whisper. There were only the couple and an Elvis impersonator in attendance.

Cameron Kade, their boy, was born on January 15, 2000, and Cheyenne, their daughter, was born on August 19, 2004.

Matt Bentley, his cousin, is also a professional wrestler who has competed in TNA and WWE.

Hickenbottom posed on a non-nude cover of Playgirl magazine in 1996.

He didn’t realize Playgirl had a primarily homosexual readership until after he posed, for which several of his other wrestlers taunted him.

Hickenbottom gave up his prior lifestyle because he was afraid of negatively influencing his little kid.

On April 24, 2002, Hickenbottom became a born-again Christian.

He was reared as a Catholic, but because of his marriage, he became a non-denominational Christian. He wore cross emblems on his later ring outfit and performed a prayer motion on his knees before ring entrances.

Hickenbottom was in the audience at John Hagee’s Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, where he is also a Bible instructor, during a broadcast service.

He and fellow professional wrestler Sting featured in a Trinity Broadcasting Network broadcast in 2008.
