Private & early life
The PBS series African American Lives 2 featured Cheadle’s family history in 2008. Cheadle’s Cameroonian ancestry was discovered through DNA testing. Another DNA test found that one-third of his African heritage originates from the Senegal-Liberia region, a little over a quarter from the Congo-Angola region, and the remainder from western Nigeria and Benin.
In early 2020, Cheadle married his longtime companion, actress, and Rosewood co-star Bridgid Coulter. The pair has two children and has been married for almost 28 years.
