Anne Hathaway Biography

Anne “Annie” Jacqueline Hathaway was born in the Brooklyn borough of New York City on November 12, 1982.

Gerald, her father, is a labour lawyer, and Kate, her mother, is a former actress.

Joe McCauley, a radio announcer on WIP (AM) in Philadelphia, was Hathaway’s maternal grandpa.

Her mother is Irish, while her father is descended from Irish, French, English, and German ancestors.

Shakespeare’s wife inspired her name. She is the second of three siblings, coming after her older brother Michael and before her younger brother Thomas.

Her family relocated to the Short Hills neighbourhood of Millburn, New Jersey, when she was six years old.

When Hathaway was six years old, she saw her mother appear as Fantine in Les Misérables, and she was immediately enthralled by the stage.

However, her parents were adamant that she not pursue an acting career.

Kate left performing after that to raise Hathaway and her brothers.

Hathaway was reared as a Roman Catholic with “very strong principles,” and she had expressed her desire to be a nun as a youngster, but acting has always been a top priority for her.

After finding that her elder brother, Michael, was gay, her connection with the Catholic Church shifted at the age of fifteen.

Her family left the church, turning to Episcopalianism due of the church’s embrace of homosexuality, but then abandoning it as well.

Between 1998 and 1999, Hathaway performed in plays at Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, New Jersey, and sang soprano with the All-Eastern United States High School Honors Chorus at Carnegie Hall.

Her acting style and attractiveness were likened to Judy Garland and Audrey Hepburn at the outset of her cinematic career, and she counts Judy Garland as one of her favourite actors.

Hathaway was cast in the short-lived Fox television series Get Real three days after her Carnegie Hall performance.
