In 1970, Downey made his acting debut at the age of five.
He then collaborated with the Brat Pack on the adolescent flicks Weird Science (1985) and Less Than Zero (1987).
He starred as Charlie Chaplin in the biopic Chaplin, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and a BAFTA award.
Following a stay at the Corcoran Substance Abuse Treatment Facility on drug charges, he landed a role on the TV show Ally McBeal, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.

Private Life
Downey’s father, a drug addict, allowed him to smoke marijuana when he was six years old, an act that his father subsequently claimed he regretted.
