Heard earned her first leading part in the 2006 horror picture All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, following a string of tiny appearances.

Patricia Paige, an internet researcher (1956–2020), and David Clinton Heard, the owner of a small construction firm, raised Heard in Austin, Texas.
Whitney is her younger sister.
The family resided on the outskirts of Austin. Heard grew up riding horses, shooting, and fishing with her father, who broke horses in his spare time.
She has also competed in beauty pageants, however, she has stated that she can no longer “accept the objectification” as an adult.
Heard was raised Catholic but became an agnostic when her best friend died in a car accident when she was sixteen.

Heard’s early acting credits include modest supporting roles in the television programs Jack & Bobby (2004), The Mountain (2004), and The O.C., as well as cameos in two music videos, Kenny Chesney’s “There Goes My Life” and Eisley’s “I Wasn’t Prepared” (2005).

Heard first came out in public in 2010, although he has noted, “I don’t categorize myself in any way—I’ve had successful relationships with both men and women. It doesn’t matter who I love; it’s who matters.” Heard said in 2018 that she had been told not to come out as bisexual because it may harm her career.
From 2008 through 2012, Heard was in a relationship with photographer Tasya van Ree. Heard was arrested for minor domestic violence in Washington in 2009 after reportedly grabbing van Ree and punching her arm, but he was never prosecuted.
