She grew interested in musical theatre at the age of nine and appeared in four Berks Youth Theatre Academy performances.

On weekends, she would play at local festivals and gatherings. Swift was convinced she needed to relocate to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a career in music after seeing a documentary on Faith Hill.

She went to Nashville record labels with her mother when she was eleven years old, submitting demo recordings of Dolly Parton and The Chicks karaoke covers.

She was, however, turned down because “Everyone in that town wanted to follow in my footsteps. So I kept telling myself that I needed to find a method to stand out.”

Ronnie Cremer, a computer repairman, and local musician taught Swift to play guitar when she was approximately 12 years old.

Swift, at 13 years old, was offered an artist development agreement after playing original songs at an RCA Records showcase and began making frequent trips to Nashville with her mother.

Her father switched to Merrill Lynch’s Nashville office when she was 14 years old to assist her to break into country music, and the family moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee.
