Salma Hayek Jiménez was born on September 2, 1966, in the Mexican state of Veracruz, in the town of Coatzacoalcos.

Sami Hayek Domnguez, her father, is a Lebanese Mexican.

His ancestors are from Baabdat, Lebanon, where Salma and her father visited in 2015 to promote her film The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran.

He runs an industrial equipment company and works for an oil company in Mexico; he ran for mayor of Coatzacoalcos once.

Diana Jiménez Medina, her mother, is a Mexican of Spanish heritage who works as an opera singer and talent scout.

Hayek is a naturalized citizen of the United States.

She is a yoga practitioner and has studied at Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment.

In a 2007 interview, Hayek, who was raised Catholic, stated that she was no longer devout and did not believe in the Church, in part because she disagreed with practices such as the Church’s campaign against condoms in Africa, where she claimed AIDS and overpopulation were rampant, though she clarified that she still believed in Jesus Christ and God.
