Gibson ran into Robyn. Denise Moore in Adelaide, South Australia, in the late 1970s, shortly after filming Mad Max. Robyn was a dental nurse at the time, and Mel was an unknown performer with the South Australian Theatre Company. Mel and Robyn were married in a Catholic chapel in Forestville, New South Wales, on June 7, 1980.
