Renner was born on January 7, 1971, in Modesto, California, to parents Valerie Cearley and Lee Renner, who in the 1980s ran McHenry Bowl, a bowling alley in Modesto.
His parents married while he was an adolescent and divorced when he was 10 years old.
He is the oldest of seven siblings, the youngest of whom was born in 2011 at the age of 40, making him a new big brother.

Renner graduated from Modesto’s Fred C. Beyer High School in 1989.
He studied computer technology and criminology at Modesto Junior College before taking a theatrical class as an elective and deciding to pursue acting.
Career
Renner made his cinematic debut in the 1995 comedy National Lampoon’s Senior Trip as an underachieving student.
Renner portrayed serial murderer Jeffrey Dahmer in the 2002 film Dahmer. Knowing that Dahmer murdered seventeen people, he found the non-fiction part difficult to deal with once the film was completed.
He also played a Bad Boy Sheriff in Pink’s “Trouble” music video from 2003.
Renner had roles in North Country, 12, and Holding before starring in A Little Trip to Heaven alongside Julia Stiles and Forest Whitaker in 2005.

Private & early life
On January 13, 2014, Renner married Canadian model Sonni Pacheco. Ava Berlin is Renner and Pacheco’s daughter. Pacheco filed for divorce from Renner on December 30, 2014, alleging irreconcilable differences. Their daughter is shared between them. Renner plays Carmine Polito, the Mayor of Camden, New Jersey, in the film American Hustle, in which Pacheco and their daughter make cameo appearances.
Renner is from Nevada’s Washoe County. With his best friend and fellow actor Kristoffer Winters, he runs a home renovation company. In preparation for his roles in the Mission: Impossible and Avengers series, he trained Arnis and Muay Thai martial arts.
