Lee was born Thomas Lee Bass on October 3, 1962, in Athens, Greece, to father David Lee Thomas Bass, a United States Army sergeant, and mother Vassiliki “Voula” Papadimitriou, a Miss Greece contestant in 1957.

Suite 19, Lee’s band, was a fixture on the Sunset Strip club circuit in Los Angeles in the late 1970s, with other up-and-coming acts like Van Halen and Quiet Riot.
