Montana was born on June 11, 1956, in New Eagle, Pennsylvania, a borough of Washington County in the western part of the state, to parents Joseph Clifford Montana Sr. and Theresa Marie Bavuso Montana.
He was born and raised in Monongahela, a coal-mining town located 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of Pittsburgh.

Career
Ara Parseghian was the football coach at Notre Dame when Montana came in the fall of 1974.

Private & early life
Montana has married three times throughout her life. During his second semester at Notre Dame in 1974, he married his local sweetheart, Kim Moses; they divorced three years later.
He married Cass Castillo in 1981, but the couple separated in 1984.
While working on a Schick commercial, he met Jennifer Wallace, an actress, and model, and the two married in 1985. Alexandra, Elizabeth, Nate, and Nick are their four children.
His two boys were both football players at De La Salle High School.
After Moses “sold a bundle of letters and mementos from [Montana’s] college days at Notre Dame,” Montana sued his ex-wife Moses and a Dallas auction company in 2008 for “violating his ‘copyright and privacy rights.”
