Warren Buffett was born on August 30, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Leila and Congressman Howard Buffett.

He was the second of three children and the only son of the couple.

In 1942, his father was elected to the first of four terms in the United States Congress, and after moving with his family to Washington, D.C.

Buffett was diagnosed with stage I prostate cancer following a regular exam on April 11, 2012. In mid-July, he revealed that he will begin two months of daily radiation treatment.

At a young age, Buffett showed an interest in business and investment. At the age of 7, he was inspired by a book called One Thousand Ways to Make $1000, which he acquired from the Omaha public library.

Buffett and a buddy paid $25 on a secondhand pinball machine in a local barbershop when they were high school sophomores in 1945.

They had several devices in three separate barbershops around Omaha within a few months. Later that year, they sold the company to a military veteran for $1,200.

His interest in the stock market and investing dates back to his childhood, when he used to hang out in the customers’ lounge of a regional stock brokerage near his father’s workplace.
