She made her acting debut in the romantic comedy film No Reservations (2007) and had her breakthrough portraying Angel Salvadore in the superhero film X-Men: First Class (2011), which earned her nominations for a Teen Choice Award and a Scream Award.

She is the daughter of actor-musician Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet.

Kravitz was born on December 1, 1988, at the house of her parents, actress Lisa Bonet and musician Lenny Kravitz, in Venice, Los Angeles.

Both of their parents are of mixed African and Jewish origin (her paternal grandfather was of Russian-Jewish or Ukrainian-Jewish ancestry).

Her paternal grandmother, actress Roxie Roker (a first cousin once removed of TV weathercaster Al Roker), and maternal grandfather, Allen Bonet, were both African Americans, with part of her grandmother’s family hailing from the Bahamas.

Her maternal grandmother, Arlene Litman, and paternal grandpa, NBC television news producer Sy Kravitz, were both Jewish. Kravitz considers himself to be a secular Jew.

Kravitz’s parents were married in 1987 and separated six years later, when Zo was five years old, in 1993.

She grew up in Topanga Canyon with her mother, then moved to Miami with her father when she was 11 years old, spending summers with her mother.

From her mother’s remarriage to actor Jason Momoa, Kravitz has a younger half-sister, Lola Iolani Momoa, and a half-brother, Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.
