Career
Sehgal’s grandfather worked as a jeweler. In 1975, Sehgal and his mother co-founded the Samvardhana Motherson Group and joined the silver trade. After a rival went bankrupt, Samvardhana Motherson Group’s future in the silver industry was jeopardized.
Instead, the Samvardhana Motherson Group became an auto component manufacturer, finally establishing a relationship with Sumitomo Electric and acquiring eleven companies over the course of twelve years.
Sehgal was the managing director of the company from 1975 to 1995 when he stepped down from day-to-day operations and became chairman of the company.
Sehgal received the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award for India in 2016.
