Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born on 7 July 1981 in the province of Ranchi (now Jharkhand) to a Hindu Hindustani family.
His paternal village, Lwali, is located in the Langara block of Uttarakhand’s Almora district.
Dhoni’s family migrated from Uttarakhand to Ranchi, where his father, Pan Singh, worked in MECON as a junior manager.
Dhoni has a brother Narendra Singh Dhoni and a sister Jayanti Gupta.
