Lil Wayne Biography

Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. was born on September 27, 1982, in the underprivileged Hollygrove section of New Orleans, Louisiana, and spent his early years there.

He was born to his mother, a chef when she was 19 years old.

When he was two years old, his parents split, and his father abandoned the family for good.

He has stated that his late stepfather Reginald “Rabbit” McDonald is his biological father. Carter has a tattoo of McDonald on his arm.

He wrote his first rap song when he was eight years old.

Carter met rapper and Cash Money Records co-founder Bryan “Baby” Williams (now known as Birdman) in the summer of 1991, who mentored and encouraged him in his love of hip-hop.

Birdman featured Carter on several Cash Money tracks, and Carter would frequently record freestyle raps on Williams’ answering machine.

He had a near-fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest when he was 12 years old, in 1994. He said the damage was unintentional at the time.

Carter attributes his life to off-duty police officer Robert Hoobler, whom he refers to as “Uncle Bob,” who insisted on driving the dying boy to the hospital in a police car rather than waiting for an ambulance.

According to some versions, multiple policemen were involved in deciding on and carrying out that plan.
