He graduated from Rashtriya Military School in Belgium and went on to Dr.(Mrs)Erin N.Nagarvala School in Pune (formerly National Model School).
He received a BE (Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering from BITS Pilani in 1970 and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1972.
Career
In 1972, Baba Kalyani entered Bharat Forge, a multinational engineering firm.
He is the founder and chairman of Pratham Pune Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that was established in 2000 to provide primary education to children from underserved areas of the community.
Kalyani founded Kenersys Limited to produce various energy-efficient wind turbines for domestic and foreign markets in order to contribute to a sustainable and emission-free climate. In Maharashtra, the firm also has its own wind turbines that provide “green electricity” for the group’s manufacturing activities.
He’s still focused on renewable energy equipment for the non-conventional energy market.
Bharat Forge is working on a composite approach with KPIT Cummins in a joint venture that will help the country achieve its vehicular pollution goals.
On June 6, 2018, the Indian government established a task force under the chairmanship of Baba Kalyani to review policies related to special economic zones (SEZ).
The Kalyani Group announced a joint venture with Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems on February 19, 2015. The headquarters of this joint venture will be in India.

Mrs. Sulochana and Mr. Neelakanth Kalyani, a Pune-based technocrat and manufacturer of automobile parts, welcomed Babasaheb Kalyani into their family on January 7, 1949.
Philanthropy
He is the founding chairman of Pratham Pune Education Foundation, a charity that provides primary education for underprivileged children.
Awards
Kalyani was awarded the Padma Bhushan award by the Indian government for contributions to trade and industry, and the Swedish government appointed him Commander First Class of the Royal Order of the Polar Star in appreciation of his efforts to improve trade and business relations between Sweden and India.
Other prizes include the Kiel Institute’s Global Economy Prize for Industry in 2009, Business India Magazine’s German Businessman of the Year in 2006, Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year 2005 for Engineering, and the Business Standard group’s CEO of the Year 2004.
