Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch was born on July 19, 1976, to actors Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in Hammersmith, London.
He grew up in the Kensington and Chelsea area of London.

Education
Cumberbatch began his education in boarding schools at the age of eight, attending Brambletye School in West Sussex and Harrow School as an art scholar.

He went to Manchester’s Victoria University to study theatre.

Cumberbatch has starred in over a dozen great plays in the Regent’s Park Open Air, Almeida, Royal Court, and Royal National Theatres since 2001.

Private & early life
Cumberbatch and two companions were kidnapped and held at gunpoint by a gang of natives in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, in 2005 after a tyre broke.
Their kidnappers eventually drove them into uncharted terrain and released them without explanation.
He believes in Buddhism and has displayed an interest in meditation and mindfulness. He eats a vegan diet as well.
