Christina Mara Aguilera was born on December 18, 1980, on Staten Island, New York City, to artist Shelly Loraine Kearns and United States Army soldier Fausto Xavier Aguilera.

She is the elder of two children. Her mother is of German, Irish, Welsh, and Dutch descent, while her father was born in Ecuador.
