Christopher Julius Rock was born on February 7, 1965, in Andrews, South Carolina.
His parents relocated to the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, New York, shortly after his birth.
They moved to the working-class neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant a few years later. Rosalie, his mother, was a teacher and social worker for the mentally retarded; Julius Rock, his father, was a truck driver and newspaper deliveryman.
Julius died in 1988, following ulcer surgery.
Rock is the eldest of his parents seven children (six boys and one girl), and he had an older paternal half-brother, Charles Ledell Rock, who died of alcoholism in 2006. Tony, Kenny, and Jordan, Rock’s younger siblings, are all in the entertainment industry.

Rock was bused to schools in largely white Brooklyn areas, where he was bullied and beaten by white kids.
As he grew older, the bullying became more severe, and Rock’s parents removed him from James Madison High School.
He dropped out of high school, although he eventually received a General Educational Development diploma (GED). Rock then worked at a variety of fast-food establishments.
Career
Rock debuted as a stand-up comic in New York City’s Catch a Rising Star in 1984.
Rock did not receive leading man status in films until the late 1990s, thanks to the success of his stand-up act.

Private & early life
On November 23, 1996, Rock married Malaak Compton-Rock. Compton-Rock is the founder and executive director of StyleWorks, a non-profit full-service hair salon that offers free services to women transitioning from poverty to employment.
The couple and their two kids lived in Alpine, New Jersey.
Rock filed for divorce from Compton-Rock in December 2014. Rock admitted to cheating in his marriage as well as pornography addiction. On August 22, 2016, the divorce was completed.
