Samuel L. Jackson Biography

On December 21, 1948, Samuel Leroy Jackson, the sole child of Elizabeth Harriett and Roy Henry Jackson, was born in Washington, D.C.

He was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

His father resided in Kansas City, Missouri, away from the family, and subsequently died of alcoholism.

Jackson only met him twice in his life.

He was reared by his mother, a factory worker who eventually became a mental facility supply buyer.

He co-founded the Just Us Theatre before graduating in 1972.

Jackson and a group of students of his college kidnapped members of the Morehouse College board of trustees on campus in 1969, demanding changes to the school’s curriculum and governance.

For his criminal past and activities, he was then suspended for two years.

In 1972, he returned to the institution to acquire a BA in theatre.

He got a job as a social worker in Los Angeles while he was on suspension.

He returned to Atlanta and met with Stokely Carmichael, H. Rap Brown, and other members of the Black Power movement. With his engagement in the movement, he began to feel strong, especially when the organization began purchasing firearms.

His mother, however, transferred him to Los Angeles before he could become engaged in any big-armed conflicts after the FBI advised her that if he stayed with the organization, he would die within a year.
