Mahesh Babu was born on August 9, 1975, in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India, to a Telugu family.
After Ramesh Babu, Padmavathi, and Manjula, and before Priyadarshini, he is the fourth of five children of Telugu actors Krishna and Indira.
Their ancestors are from Burripalem in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district.
Babu spent much of his life in Madras, where he was raised by his maternal grandmother Durgamma and his family.
Babu used to play cricket at the VGP Golden Beach in Madras with his siblings on a daily basis.

Education
Mahesh attended St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai, where he was classmates with actor Karthi.
In an interview, Babu said that he and actor Vijay were longstanding friends who attended the same college before starting their careers in the film industry.
He graduated from Loyola College in Chennai with a bachelor’s degree in business.
Following graduation, he met with director L. Satyanand in Vishakhapatnam for three to four months of additional acting instruction.

Private & early life
Babu began dating his co-star Namrata Shirodkar while filming B. Gopal’s Vamsi in Australia.
They chose to marry after four years of dating, and Manjula was able to persuade Krishna to support their decision.
During the filming of Athadu, they married on February 10, 2005, at the Marriott Hotel in Mumbai.
In 2006, the couple welcomed their first child in Hyderabad’s Global Hospital.
Gautham Krishna was a preterm infant who was in serious condition at the time of his birth.
After the physicians treated him in a timely manner, his condition stabilized.
Shirodkar gave birth to a daughter called Sitara in 2012.
