Private & early life
Shilpa Shetty began dating Akshay Kumar on the set of Insaaf (1997), after working with him in Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994).
Akshay had recently broken up with actress Raveena Tandon. Shetty was candid about her feelings for Akshay.

Philanthropy
Shilpa Shetty extended his support to a BBC World Service Trust television show aimed at combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic in India in February 2006.

Controversy
Shetty and actress Reema Sen were handed non-bailable warrants by a Madurai court in April 2006 for “posing in an obscene manner” in images published by a Tamil publication.
She stated that she had not received any court summons and that the charges were unfounded.
Several other housemates, including Jade Goody, Jo O’Meara, and Danielle Lloyd, allegedly targeted Shetty for racism and bullying during her time on Celebrity Big Boss 5.
After Shetty’s effort to flush the leftover chicken soup down the toilet resulted in a blockage, housemate Jack Tweed advised her to pick the bones out with her teeth and allegedly called her a “fucking Paki,” though show producers refuted this and maintained that the word used was “cunt.”
During an AIDS-awareness ceremony on April 15, 2007, American actor Richard Gere repeatedly hugged and kissed Shetty on the cheek.
“I understand this (kissing) is his (Gere’s) culture, not ours,” Shetty said in response to the protests. But this was not a major event, nor was it vulgar for people to react in this way.
