Sharma rose to prominence after winning a cash award of INR ten lakh in the comic reality television show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007.
He was a contestant on Sony’s Comedy Circus and won six seasons of the show. He also hosted Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6 and Chhote Miyan, a comedy program.
Sharma was honored with the Indian of the Year award in the entertainment category by veteran actor Amol Palekar at the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year awards in 2013.
Sharma and Karan Johar were co-hosts of the 60th Filmfare Awards in 2015.
