Jackie Chan was born Chan Kong-sang Chan on April 7, 1954, in Hong Kong, to Chinese Civil War exiles Charles and Lee-Lee Chan.

His parents were so impoverished that they had to rely on friends to help them pay the doctor.

He joined the Seven Little Fortunes, a performance group made up of the brightest pupils at the school, and took on the stage name Yuen Lo.

Chan changed his Chinese name to Fang Shilong in the late 1990s, as his father’s surname was Fang.
