Cooper was born in Abington Township, near Philadelphia, on January 5, 1975, and grew up in the surrounding towns of Jenkintown and Rydal.
Gloria, his mother, worked at the local NBC affiliate. His father, Charles Cooper, worked at Merrill Lynch as a stockbroker. Cooper’s father is of Irish origin, while his mother is of Italian descent.
Holly, his older sister, is his only sibling.

Cooper’s early career in the entertainment sector was marked by setbacks.
When his position on Alias was reduced to a minor part in the second season, he pondered leaving the industry. Suicide ideas arose as a result of his substance abuse and career uncertainties.
Cooper proposed to actress Jennifer Esposito in October 2006, and the couple married in December of that year. She filed for divorce in May 2007, and it was completed in November.
He met Renée Zellweger while filming Case 39 in 2006, before marrying Esposito. When the film was released in 2009, the media speculated on the nature of their connection. They allegedly split up in 2011.
