Gautam Gambhir is an Indian politician and former cricketer who has represented his country in all forms.

He was a left-handed opening batsman who captained the Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League and played domestic cricket for Delhi (IPL).

Deepak Gambhir, a textiles company owner, and Seema Gambhir, a housewife, gave birth to Gambhir on October 14, 1981, in New Delhi.

Ekta, Gambhir’s two-year-younger sister, is his only sibling.

In 1947, his grandpa moved to Delhi from Multan. Gambhir was adopted by his maternal grandparents eighteen days after his birth and has since resided with them. At the age of ten, Gambhir began playing cricket.

He graduated from Hindu College, University of Delhi, after attending Modern School in New Delhi. During the 1990s, he remained at the home of his maternal uncle Pawan Gulati.

Gulati is Gambhir’s mentor, and he frequently calls him up before big games neighborhood.

Sanjay Bharadwaj and Raju Tandon of the Delhi-based Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy tutored Gambhir. In 2000, Gambhir was chosen for the National Cricket Academy’s initial intake in Bangalore.

Career

Between 2005 and 2007, while out of the Test team, Gambhir represented India in a handful of One Day Internationals.

Gambhir was chosen for the One Day International on India’s 2007 tour to Bangladesh after the team’s first-round loss in the competition.

Gambhir was named to India’s team for the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa, which India won by defeating Pakistan in the final.

Gambhir excelled in the shorter format of the game, finishing with 227 runs at an average of 37.83, including three half-centuries, including a critical 75 runs off 54 balls against Pakistan in the final. For the 2007 T20I World Cup, Cricinfo selected him to their ‘Team of the Tournament.’
