He struck 215 against Zimbabwe in a group game at the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup in Canberra, becoming the fourth player to make a double century in one-day internationals and the first in World Cup history.

He has been nominated for the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Decade award, which will be handed out in November 2020.

He was picked for the T20I team against Sri Lanka in February 2021, after a two-year break. Gayle was chosen to the West Indies’ 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup team in September 2021.

He announced his retirement from international cricket on November 6, 2021, at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, where he played his final T20I match against Australia.
