Lilly was born on August 3, 1979, in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

Her mother, a produce manager, and father, a home economics instructor, reared her in British Columbia. She has two sisters, one elder and one younger.

Lilly graduated from W. J. Mouat Secondary School in Abbotsford, British Columbia, where she played soccer and served on the student council as vice president.

To pay for her school, she worked as a waitress, did “oil changes and grease jobs on big rig trucks,” and was a flight attendant for Royal Airlines.

Her passion for humanitarian problems and global development prompted her to study International Relations at the University of British Columbia.

Lilly’s acting career began when a Ford Modelling Agency representative noticed her when she was spending the time in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Lilly was urged to apply for ABC’s Lost by a friend and did not expect to get cast.

From 2004 until 2010, Lost aired for six seasons.

It was one of ABC’s best primetime series, receiving one Golden Globe Award and ten Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2005, and was named by IMDb as the most-rated TV show of the decade.

From 2003 until 2004, Lilly was married to Murray Hone. From 2004 until 2007, she was in a relationship with her Lost co-star Dominic Monaghan. Lilly established a long-term relationship with Norman Kali in 2010. In 2011, she gave birth to their first child, a boy. In October 2015, their second child, another son, was born.

She is a Christian, and she has indicated that her religion inspired her decision to visit the Philippines at the age of 18.

While she was on the set of Lost, an electrical fault caught fire at her residence in Kailua, Hawaii, burning the house and all of her valuables.

Philanthropy

Lilly collaborates with non-profit organizations such as the GO Campaign. In 2009, Lilly auctioned off personalized underwear to benefit Task Brasil, a “non-profit organization devoted to rescuing Brazil’s abandoned street children by providing them with stable shelter.”
