Avesh began playing cricket at a young age under the tutelage of his father, who used to play local cricket.

Avesh joined the Indore Colts Cricket Club when he was 14 years old.

Domestic career
On 14 May 2017, he made his Twenty20 debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. In the 2018 IPL auction, he was purchased by the Delhi Daredevils in January 2018. On 5 February 2018, he made his List A debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2017–18 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
With 35 dismissals in seven matches, he was Madhya Pradesh’s best wicket-taker in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy. He was picked to India C’s squad for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy in October 2019.
Avesh concluded IPL 2021 as the leading wicket-taker for Delhi Capitals and the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker with 24 wickets. He was purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League season in February 2022. He was purchased for ten crores, making him the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history.
International career
He was chosen as one of five net bowlers in India’s Test squad for the series against England in January 2021. He was also picked as one of four standby players in India’s Test team for the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship final and away series against England in May 2021.
