Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on January 12, 1964, the son of Jacklyn and Theodore Jørgensen.
Ted Jorgensen is Jeff Bezo’s biological father.
His mother was a 17-year-old high school student at the time of his birth, while his father was 19 years old.
His mother married Miguel Bezos, a Cuban immigrant, in April 1968, after his parents split.
Mike adopted four-year-old Jorgensen shortly after the wedding, and his surname was changed to Bezos.
After graduating from the University of New Mexico, the family relocated to Houston, Texas, where Mike worked for Exxon as an engineer.

Bezos moved into the online selling of music and video in 1998, and by the end of the year, the company’s offerings had expanded to encompass a number of other consumer items.
Bezos borrowed $2 billion from banks in 2000, when his cash levels were barely $350 million.

They relocated to Seattle, Washington, in 1994, where Bezos established Amazon. Bezos and his now-ex-wife MacKenzie have four children: three sons and one Chinese-adopted girl.
After an “extended period” of separation, Bezos and MacKenzie announced their intention to divorce on Twitter on January 9, 2019.
The divorce was formalized on April 4, 2019, with Bezos maintaining 75% of the couple’s Amazon equity and MacKenzie receiving the remaining 25% in Amazon shares.

Philanthropy
Between 2009 and 2017, Bezos made multiple donations to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He donated $500,000 to Worldreader, a non-profit started by a former Amazon employee, in 2013.
Bezos donated $1 million to the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press in May 2017, which offers pro bono legal assistance to American journalists.
In September 2018, Bezos stated that he will donate $2 billion to a fund to combat American homelessness and construct a network of non-profit preschools for low-income families.
Bezos donated $33 million to TheDream.US, a college scholarship organization for illegal immigrants brought to the United States as youngsters, in January 2018. Bezos gave $10 million to With Honor, a nonpartisan group that strives to expand the number of veterans in elected office, in September 2018.
