Young Dolph Biography

Adolph Robert Thornton Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 27, 1985.

His family relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, when he was two years old.

He has two sisters and two brothers, and he was second cousins with rapper Juice Wrld.

Thornton was largely raised by his grandmother; his parents were crack cocaine addicts, and he only saw them every few weeks as a youngster.

Thornton stated that in his hometown in South Memphis, many of his contemporaries were raised by their grandparents due to troubles with their parents.

He described his grandmother as “the meanest motherfucker in the world” at the time, saying, “I didn’t get that shit at the time…. All the shit she was telling you, you get to seeing that shit when you hit about 15,” adding that as he approached that age, he began utilizing her teachings throughout his life to become more independent.

His grandmother frequently forbade Thornton from having friends visit their house, but she did occasionally allow homeless acquaintances to stay with the family.
