Steve Ballmer was born on March 24, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, he is the son of Beatrice Dworkin and Frederic Henry Ballmer, a Ford Motor Company manager.

His father, a Swiss immigrant, prophesied that his son would attend Harvard when he was eight years old.

He is a second cousin of actress and comedian Gilda Radner through his mother.
