She graduated in 2002 from Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, after attending private school at Georgetown Day School in Washington, D.C., and boarding school at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts.
She was admitted to Bard College, but she postponed her enrollment three times to pursue her acting career.

On the short-lived television series Skin (2003–2004), Wilde played “Jewel Goldman.” Her recurrent role as Alex Kelly on the adolescent drama television series The O.C. (2004–2005) made her famous.
She appeared in the films The Girl Next Door (2004), Conversations with Other Women (2005), Bickford Shmeckler’s Cool Ideas (2006), Turistas (2006), and Alpha Dog (2006), among others (2006).
She played three separate roles in the off-Broadway theatre production of Beauty on the Vine, a political thriller, in 2007.

Private & early life
Wilde married Italian filmmaker and musician Tao Ruspoli, a member of the aristocratic Ruspoli family, on June 7, 2003, when she was 19 years old.
They married aboard a school bus in Washington, Virginia, with only two witnesses.
She subsequently said that the wedding took place on an abandoned school bus since it was the only place they could be fully alone at the time because the marriage was a secret.
She and Ruspoli announced their separation on February 8, 2011.
On March 3, 2011, Wilde filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging “irreconcilable disagreements.” On September 29, 2011, the divorce was completed.
Wilde did not seek spousal support, and the couple worked out a private property partition deal.
In November 2011, Wilde began dating American actor and comedian Jason Sudeikis. In January 2013, they announced their engagement.
