Narendra Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Mehsana district, Bombay State, to a Gujarati Hindu family of grocers (present-day Gujarat).
He was the third of six children born to Damodardas Mulchand Modi and Hiraben Modi (born in the 1920s).

Education
Modi finished his higher secondary school at Vadnagar in 1967.
Modi earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the School of Open Learning at the University of Delhi in 1978, graduating with honors.
