Career
In 1966, Bloomberg began his career on Wall Street as an entry-level employee at investment bank Salomon Brothers.
In 1973, Bloomberg joined Salomon Brothers, a prominent Wall Street investment bank, as a general partner, where he oversaw systems development.
In 1981, Phibro Corporation purchased Salomon Brothers, and the new management dismissed Bloomberg after paying him $10 million for his stock.
Bloomberg starts Innovative Market Systems, a data services company based on his belief that Wall Street would pay a premium for high-quality business information.
He had designed in-house computerized financial systems for Salomon.
The company provided Wall Street firms with customized computer terminals that provided real-time market data and financial computations.
The terminal, formerly known as the Market Master terminal, was initially shown to the public in December 1982.
