Brie Larson Biography

Heather and Sylvain Desaulniers gave birth to Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers on October 1, 1989, in Sacramento, California.

Her parents were homeopathic chiropractors who co-owned a clinic and had another daughter, Milaine. Larson’s father is Franco-Manitoban, and she grew up speaking French as her first language.

She was largely home-schooled, which she claimed allowed her to experiment with new and abstract ideas.

Larson has described her childhood as “straight-laced and square,” with a deep relationship with her mother but being timid and suffering from social anxiety.

During the summer, she would create and direct her own home movies, which she would cast and film in her garage with her cousins.

She exhibited an interest in being an actor when she was six years old, later adding that “creative arts was simply something that was always in me.”

Larson had trauma when her parents split when she was seven years old. Soon after their divorce, Heather moved to Los Angeles with her two girls to pursue Larson’s acting career.

They were poor and lived in a modest apartment near the Hollywood studio grounds in Burbank.

Because her surname was difficult to pronounce, she acquired the stage name Larson from her Swedish great-grandmother, as well as a Kirsten Larson American Girl doll she got as a youngster.
