Education
She grew up in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, where she attended Cedar Hill Elementary School and the Oak Street School, which was then a junior high school.
She made her junior high acting debut in the play The Family Upstairs as Louise Heller.
She attended Bernards High School in Bernardsville, New Jersey when the family relocated there in 1963.

In 1975, one of Streep’s first professional assignments was acting in five plays over the course of six weeks at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Playwrights Conference.
Streep began working on Alice in Concert, a musical adaptation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, with writer and composer Elizabeth Swados and director Joseph Papp in 1979.
The early 1990s saw a decline in Streep’s popularity, which biographer Karen Hollinger attributed to a critical perception that her comedies were an attempt to convey a lighter image after several serious, but commercially unsuccessful, dramas.

Despite her celebrity, author Karina Longworth adds that Streep has managed to keep a very regular personal life for decades.
She had a three-year relationship with actor John Cazale, who died of lung disease in March 1978.
Six months after Cazale’s death, Streep married sculptor, Don Gummer.
Streep became a grandma for the first time in February 2019 through her eldest daughter Mamie.
The family moved into a $1.8 million private house in Connecticut in August 1985, where they stayed until 1990 when they purchased a $3 million mansion in Brentwood, Los Angeles.
They returned to Connecticut in the end.
