Anand Burman was born in 1952, into a Punjabi business family in Bengal.
His father was Dabur chairman emeritus Ashok Chand Burman.
Education
He attended St. Paul’s School in Darjeeling, India, for his primary education.
Burman earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and his master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Kansas, respectively.
Burman graduated from the University of Kansas with a doctorate in medicinal chemistry.
Career
In 1980, Anand began working for his family’s firm, Dabur, as the manager of the research and development department.
He joined the company’s board of directors in 1986 and was elected chairman in 2007.
Five branches of the Burman clan, led by Anand Burman, share the capital, the majority of which comes from a 68 percent stake in Dabur, a consumer products company with a turnover of $1.3 billion. The company’s sales increased, owing to increased demand for its hair oils, toothpaste, bottled juices, and home-care products.
Anand is a board member of 33 firms, including Hero Motocorp, Aviva Life Insurance, Ester Industries, and Interx Laboratories.
He was the chairman of Fresenius Kabi Oncology Ltd and a non-executive director of Hindustan Motors Ltd. Anand founded Sundesh, a non-profit organization dedicated to healthcare and education.
