Bill Gates and Paul Allen, childhood pals, wanted to start a business leveraging their computer programming abilities.
On April 4, 1975, Bill Gates and Paul Allen established Microsoft to create and market basic interpreters for the Altair 8800.
Microsoft joined the operating system (OS) market in 1980 with Xenix.
Following the company’s initial public offering (IPO) in 1986 and subsequent rise in share price, three billionaires and an estimated 12,000 millionaires were established among Microsoft workers.
Microsoft released the Microsoft Office suite in 1990.
Bill Gates turned up the CEO role to Steve Ballmer, an old college buddy of Gates’s and a business employee since 1980, on January 13, 2000.
