Akshay Kumar was born on 9 September 1967 into a Punjabi family in Amritsar, Punjab, India, to Hari Om and Aruna Bhatia.
His father served in the army. Kumar has always been involved in sports since he was a child. His father was also a fan of the sport.
He was born and raised in Chandni Chowk in Delhi and later moved to Mumbai when his father left the army to work with UNICEF as an accountant. His sister was born soon after, and the family moved to Koliwada in Central Bombay, a Punjabi town.
Kumar was given Canadian citizenship by the Conservative government sometime during or after the 2011 Canadian federal election, using little-known legislation that permitted him to avoid the normal residency requirement for newcomers to Canada.

Education
He went to Don Bosco High School in Matunga for his studies while also studying Karate. He enrolled in Guru Nanak Khalsa College for higher education but dropped out due to a lack of interest in the subject.
He told his father that he wanted to continue learning martial arts, and his father managed to raise enough money to take him to Thailand. Kumar moved to Bangkok to study martial arts and spent 5 years in Thailand studying Thai Boxing.
Career
He starred in 11 feature films in 1994. He starred as a cop in two films: Rajiv Rai’s Mohra and Sameer Malkan’s Main Khiladi Tu Anari, both of which were among the year’s highest-grossing films.
With what became known as the Khiladi series, Kumar had a lot of success. Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995) and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996), both directed by Umesh Mehra and commercially successful, were his 4th and 5th action thriller films with Khiladi in the title.
Kumar got his first nomination for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his supporting role in the Yash Chopra-directed romance Dil To Pagal Hai (1997).

Private & early life
Akshay Kumar married actress Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of actors Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, on January 17, 2001, after being engaged twice. They have a son and a daughter together.
He has a reputation for being a protective parent who protects his children away from the press.
Kumar requested Twinkle to unbutton his jeans while appearing at a Levis demonstration at Lakme Fashion Week in 2009. This incident caused outrage, prompting the filing of a police report against them.
Kumar keeps in shape by working out and doing a mix of rugby, diving, Parkour, and kickboxing.
He began doing Karate when he was in 8th grade. He planned to open a martial arts academy, and the Maharashtra state government provided him with land in Bhayandar.
