The film is produced by Paramount Animation, Nickelodeon Movies, and Big Kid Pictures, with animation done by DNEG Animation. It features the voices of Keke Palmer, Michael Cera, and Bobby Cannavale.

Under the Boardwalk Release Date
“Under the Boardwalk” made its debut in select theaters on October 27, 2023, courtesy of Paramount Pictures. Following its theatrical run, the film is scheduled for premium video-on-demand release on November 7, 2023.
The original release date was initially set for July 22, 2022, but it was later rescheduled, and the movie now graces screens in 2023.
Under the Boardwalk Plot
This animated musical comedy unfolds the tale of hermit crabs residing beneath the boardwalk at the Jersey Shore. When a land crab named Armen from the local town falls in love with a sea crab tourist, Ramona, tensions rise among their friends and families. However, when a storm carries them far from home, their love leads to an epic adventure that brings their divided community together.

The film was initially announced in June 2019 as “Jersey Crabs” under Paramount Animation, with Lorene Scafaria as the screenwriter and David Dobkin as the producer. In July 2020, David Soren was brought in as the director, and the film was renamed “Under the Boardwalk.” New Republic Pictures co-financed the project.
Animation production took place at DNEG Animation’s facilities in Montreal, with work commencing by February 2021.
