Bloodlands, starring James Nesbitt, returns to BBC One this weekend for a second season, providing fans with the ideal Sunday night dark drama.
One of the show’s stars, Victoria Smurfit, who will play Olivia Foyle in the new episodes, has hinted at what spectators may anticipate from the forthcoming narrative – and we’re interested!
Victoria talked up about her character, who is the widow of a dishonest accountant who is murdered, during a Q&A for the show: “At all times, whoever she’s in the room with, she’s lying to at least all of them,” she began.
“That was a lot of fun. So, in order to do this, I reasoned that if my tongue says one thing, my eyes say another, and my body says yet another.”
The actress went on: “Because you have to swap, I was attempting to play the three levels differently. And I’m telling them entirely different stories in the same line, in the same paragraph. So that was quite thrilling.”
The season two summary provides a little more information about Olivia and the upcoming episodes in general.
“When the murder of a dishonest accountant reveals a trail of greed that threatens to expose his identity as the famed assassin, Goliath, DCI Tom Brannick and the accountant’s widow, Olivia Foyle, must keep each other perilously near,” the synopsis states.
“As they try to solve the riddle her husband left behind, and become increasingly engrossed in the puzzle of each other, Tom and Olivia enlist the help of Tom’s fellow officers DS Niamh McGovern, DCS Jackie Twomey, and DC ‘Birdy’ Bird, as well as Tom’s daughter, Izzy, until deception and betrayal force Tom to question just how far he will go to keep his legacy intact.”
