A powerful extraterrestrial species, the Sovereign, hires Peter Quill and his fellow Guardians to secure its valuable batteries from attackers.
The Sovereign deploys their armada to seek retribution after it is revealed that Rocket has stolen the artifacts they were entrusted to guard.
