Black Widow reviews
Displaying all the worst tendencies of Marvel movies a flat visual style a generic structure and an instantly forgettable villain Black Widow isn’t merely uninteresting it almost goes out of its way to avoid having any sort of personality.
Marvel waited too long to give Natasha Romanoff a solo film of her own, and because of this hesitation, robbed her story of all stakes.
Black Widow isn’t just dull it nearly goes out of its way to avoid having any type of personality displaying all of Marvel’s worst qualities a bland visual style a generic narrative and an instantly forgettable villain. Marvel delayed much too long to give Natasha Romanoff her own picture, and as a result, her tale was robbed of any stakes.
Because she knows how she will die in the future nearly every second of Black Widow which takes place before the events of Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame becomes useless. Instead, director Cate Shortland should have used the goodwill of the audience to her advantage.
To be fair the film tries to fill in some of the gaps but it’s interesting to see which ones Shortland focuses on. As a result, a potentially compelling narrative of Cold War intrigue is mostly overlooked in favor of fictitious situations that force the viewer to engage in the character in some manner.
